Laudato Si
The ecological crisis, Pope Francis writes
, is a summons to profound interior conversion, to renew our relationships with God, one another, and the created world.

But what can WE do?

We have seen some great changes over the last months in our great parish. Just look at the Car Park, and the clearing and bulb planting, grass sowing, and the feeling of well being just looking at it, and imagining what it will look like in the springtime, with flowers and insects and bees and birds.

Between the 16th and 19th October, Sr Margaret Atkins from Boarbank Hall Augustinian Convent, held a ZOOM conference to try and see what we can all do to encourage sustainable living, with less waste, packaging and plastic; nurturing a real feel for the environment and the birds and wildlife with which we share that space.

We all have to start somewhere and she brought together people with real experience of small beginnings and simplicity, who are bursting to share their experience with others of similar minds. There is no 'one size fits all' solution, we have to decide what we want to do, how to do it, and then give it our best shot.

The alternative is to do nothing, but is that an alternative? And where's the fun in that?

So I'm asking if anyone out there in Holy Family parish would like to join in with this idea of sharing ideas of how we can live more simply with less waste.

If you want to be part of this initiative, we will assist with getting you connected. Just let the Parish Office know.

We look forward to hearing from you...

A few ideas from that conference are: an allotment growing vegetables, a committment to use less plastic bags and packaging, when shopping, to cut down on energy usage, car use etc and to try and use renewable resources where possible. Considered and minimal use of chemicals in gardens and the house, repair not renew. I'm sure you get the idea. All these individual actions add up to making a difference. Getting started is the hard bit...

Perhaps we need young people here to show us the way?
